2006 Miss Union County: Corey Moist
Corey Moist, a Lewisburg Area High School student, was crowned Miss Union County 2006. Chosen by a panel of three, Miss Moist is a member of the National Honor Society, the National Art Honor Society and the National German Honor Society. She plans to attend college to become a lawyer or politician. She also serves as the editor of her high school yearbook and holds a black belt in tae kwan do. Miss Moist received a $500 scholarship and will appear in several local parades during her reign as Miss Union County.
First runner-up in the pageant was Stephanie Van Sickle, of Lewisburg, who received a $100 scholarship. Ally Stahl of Mifflinburg was named Miss Congeniality by her fellow contestants. She received a $20 prize.
The contestants took to the stage with half of the judging already completed through private interviews based on written profiles submitted by each girl. The second half of the contest was based on their on-stage performances. The girls were judged on appearance, poise, speaking skills and self-expression. Sitting on the judges panel were April Beaver, Corinda Varner and Chuck Beck, all from outside of Union County.
The Miss Union County Pageant was founded in 1965 and continued until 1988, when interest declined. However, during the fair's 75th anniversary celebration in 2000, the pageant was revived and continues to grow each year.
Other contestants in the pageant were Quartney Beachy, Jessica Heeter, Jennifer Nogle, Aubrey Potash and Amber Swartz, all of Mifflinburg; Whitney Bennett, of Hartleton; Megan Danowsky, Katiann Pursley and Vanessa Schneider, all of Lewisburg; Ashley Teichman and Amanda Wagner, both of Millmont; and Jennifer Zimmerman, of Vicksburg. Organizers of the pageant are Kathy Mapes, Dorine Straub and Justina Confer.
