Local Youth Participate at the Fair
While most kids spend their summer days riding bike, swimming, or just relaxing, many youth in Union County work on projects for the fair. Some of the types of youth activies are:
- Animal Exhibits and Showmanship - cattle, sheep, swine, lambs, goats, etc.
- Gardening and Crop
- Health and Fitness
- Handcrafts / Arts and Crafts
- Environmental Sciences, i.e., Conservation and Wildlife, Forestry, Veterinary and Animal Science.
- Shooting Sports
- Photography
- Child Care, Family Relations, and Career
- Citizenship and Civic Education
4-H Exhibitors are ages 8 to 18 and are actively participating in an organized 4-H Club, which is supervised by the Penn State Cooperative Extension Service.
FFA Exhibitors must be enrolled in or have completed an accepted agriculture class and meet the guidelines for membership as outlined by the National FFA Organization. They must be conducting a project in the class or classes in which they wish to make the entry. A project book must accompany all projects with entries recorded up to Friday before the fair.
Be sure to stop by and stroll through the barns and exhibit buildings to see what the youth in our community are doing at the fair.
